Seasoning Your Desktop Humidor

 

The process of preparing a new humidor is called "seasoning".    First, fill the humidification device with either distilled water or humidor solution and install it in your humidor along with the hygrometer.  Next, season your humidor, simply take a [brand new] sponge or wash cloth, and wipe down the humidor interior with DISTILLED water.  Make sure the entire interior surface is moist but not soaked with water.   After the humidor has been wiped down, re-moisten the sponge/cloth and leave it in the humidor on top of a sheet of plastic wrap or plastic bag (don't let the sponge come in direct contact with the cedar interior).  

 Let the humidor sit closed overnight.  The next day, check the humidification device.  If it is dry, add more water and let it sit for another day.  After two days, check the humidity level in the humidor.  If it is around 70 degrees Fahrenheit and has a humidity level around 68-72%, perfect.  If after a week, the humidity level remains low, add a second humidification device (it should boost the humidity).  If the humidity is too high, add some cedar sheets or more cigars to absorb some of the humidity.  If the humidor temperature is more than 70 degrees, move it to a cool, dark place.
